Reaching for the light

This is my other painting based on my early spring hike on the Hocking Hills property of the Russell family.   Deb Russell and I headed across the creek and into the woods, climbed up part of a steep rise, and lo and behold, there was this waterfall tucked back in the hillside.  It had multiple levels, and the most amazing color of moss carpeting the curved rocks around the pools.   The light filtered down from above and it was like a little fairy kingdom.   Very surreal and other worldly looking.  I love how this one turned out!  (Pic of the work in progress!)

Finally finished again.

I don't know why the picture didn't show up on the previous blog post.  It is probably something to do with my technological ignorance.  So here is the photo that was supposed to show up with the previous post.

Hocking Hills project

Deb Russell invited me down to her family's property early in the spring to attempt a painting.   The subject matter was my choice of anything on the property.  It was really early spring but a beautiful sunny day.  Wildflowers carpeted the woods and the sun warmed us as we hiked through the woods.   The trees were still mostly bare, but buds and tiny leaves were starting to open. We hiked to two separate waterfalls on the property (one of which is going to be attempted in another painting).  As we were coming back from the one falls, I caught a glimpse of their cabin ("The Lodge") across the creek.  That image was the inspiration for this painting.

Finally finished.

I have gotten distracted with the spring weather and all the delightful gardening activities.  I love shopping at nurseries, examining the earth every morning to see what is coming up, gazing into the pond to see how it is waking up.  I have decided my hobbies are just grown up versions of coloring and playing in the mud and puddles.  But anyway, this little piece is finally done and I think it does capture a really early spring feel, the grass is greening up, but the trees and fields are still barren.

Creative juices

The creative juices have been flowing right along on this one, partly due to my Thursday night painting "group" (me and one or two other gals) who have been meeting at my house.   It keeps me plugging along on projects I might not usually attempt on an evening after work.  Thanks girls!

Early spring image in progress

I can't wait to be outside again without chill wind or even the need for a sweatshirt or jacket.  I am so ready for warm sunshine, green leaves, and growing fields!  A couple weeks ago I was invited to snoop around the property of Bob and Betty Haubeil (the grandparents of Brooke Leach who I work with).  So I ventured out to the Huntington Hill's area and got some really interesting ideas for some future paintings. This is work starting on one early spring view that kind of caught my eye.
