Cows at Kellenberger Rd.

Coming south on St. Rt. 104 from Columbus one afternoon I pulled off at the cemetery right before Kellenberger Road to view some cows.  They decided to come view me as well and they strolled over to check things out.  The cows placidly gazed  upon me but the calves were more reluctant and hid behind their mamas, peeping around at me.   One of the coolest things about cows is their ears.  I love how they flap out from the sides of their heads and they can move them individually back and forth.  I was taking some pictures of the cows when the bull in the field decided he needed to inspect the situation.  He walked authoritatively through the cows and shouldered them out of the way to cast a somewhat arrogant eye on me.  He was a huge fellow and I decided that a few strands of wire fencing was something he could disregard as a mere nuisance if he was of the opinion I needed trampling.  So at that point I retreated to the minivan and continued south!  This painting is currently hanging in the lobby of North Fork Animal Clinic.

Double Trouble, portrait of two strays.

Stray cats are like the homeless people of the animal world, and there seems to be a never ending supply of them.  As soon as we find homes for one set, here come some more.  I don't even recall how these two came to us.  They were set up on the top tier of cages in a big "double wide" and lived together up there for weeks.  They went from little kittens to teenagers, got spayed and neutered (the black cat is a male, and the white female) and still no home.  They were fond of reaching down and tapping people on the head whenever you went near.  If the cage doors were opened they would gaze down in a superior manor, and that's the vantage point I used for this painting.  Thankfully, they finally found a home with the relative of one of our employees.  This painting is currently hanging in the lobby of North Fork Animal Clinic.

Peanut's new sweater

I guess it comes as no surprise that I am crazy about dogs in all shapes and sizes and personalities.  I try to make up to all my patients, some with more success than others.  This little guy has been coming in for his puppy series of vaccines, and each time I try to play with him, tempt him with treats and google over him, but he remains somewhat suspicious of the whole deal.  I can't say that I blame him, he has learned it always ends with an injection as far as he's concerned.  He showed up last week for his final immunization sporting a new fall sweater and I thought it was just the cutest thing, and he just had to become the next subject in the weekly "baby" paintings!
