Whoa Nelly

My favorite local collection of cows is at St Route 104 and Kellenberger Rd.   I can pull off into the Springbank Cemetery which is right next door to their roomy pasture and walk right up to the fence.  Sometimes I don't see them at all,  but if they are up by the cemetery I often stop to check out what they are up to.   They are an excellent assortment of sizes, shapes, and colors.  A cute bunch of calves have been growing this summer, and they are usually fairly curious peeping out from behind their mothers.   Another plus is that the ginormous cream colored bull has been missing lately.   This is a good thing as he would usually cast a baleful look my way and I felt like the wire fencing would be a mere nuisance to him if he decided I needed a good trampling.

Summer Swimmer, Lucy Bates at the Rooney's pond

Nothing beats a refreshing dip on a hot summer day!   This is my very own little girl, Lucy Bates, gliding across the Rooney Farm pond.   She knows as soon as we turn onto Plyley's Lane we are heading to the farm, and by the time we get there she is ballistic.   The instant the door of the minivan glides open she is racing across the field to jump into the pond.  Her happiness and joy is infectious.  She paddles about, drinking tons of pond water, and generally just loving it!  When we finally head home, she is worn out , like a kid after a day at the beach.  Delightful summer.
