My friend and I went hiking with her dog Daisy.   They were ahead of me with Daisy joyfully foraging through the leaves (why is it so much more fun to walk with a dog?  is it because of their contagious joyfulness in the venture?).  As we emerged from the shadow of the woods into the sun shining across the open field I saw them outlined against the sunshine and snapped a quick photo.  It's from this that this painting is based.
